pipipipipipi……
At 6 am, the alarm goes off.
This time is a bit early for a university student.
I could have woken up normally when I was in junior high school, because I had morning practice with the tennis club at 6.30am every day.
So, today, I’m going to Shikoku through Awaji Island.
There’s nothing in Dotonbori at 6am. I wanted to eat some takoyaki for breakfast…

I moved to Akashi, Hyogo.
Akashi is famous for the 135°E line that runs through it.
I learnt about it at school. I’m so good at remembering.
So I came to the ferry terminal because I had to take a ferry to go to Awaji Island. It’s the Akashi Jenova Line. It was just in time, but I managed to make it. Thank you to all the staff.
The fee is a total of ¥1,000 for one-way and bike.

I managed to arrive.
When I told the ferry staff that I would be going on a Ohenro through Awaji Island afterwards, he was very surprised and said that it was going to be melting today and that the cycling road on Awaji Island was very up and down.
So I should be careful of heat stroke.
Ugh, I’ll be careful not to get injured because I’m a beginner cyclist!

This was found near the ferry terminal.
I heard that the Awaji Island round trip is about 150 km and that going around Awaji Island is called Awaichi.
This time I am crossing over to Tokushima, so I will not make a round trip, so it is about 80 km.

It’s Akashi Kaikyo Bridge.
It’s GINORMOUS!!!!!
apparently it’s the second largest suspension bridge in the world.
Let’s keep pedaling!
its like 40 degree outside but breeze is so comfy.
well, I arrived 1st destination Hokudan Earthquake Memorial Park.

I think the admission fee was 730 yen
it was nice to be able to pay with paypay.
I heard that this memorial museum has left the damage from the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake as it was or recreated it.
The Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake happened before I was born, in 1995.
When I think about it, I realised that the only big earthquake I have ever experienced was just the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Japanese people get used to earthquakes, but a visit to such a facility can remind them of the tragedy of earthquakes.
Japanese people, including me, aren’t surprised by 4 degree earthquakes and we don’t hide.
We need to be better prepared for earthquakes.

Now, let’s go and eat up!
Awaji Island is famous for its Awaji Island Burger!
This burger is made with Awaji beef and Awaji onions.
It was huge and a bit hard to eat, but it was really delicious!
This restaurant is Awaji hamburger Orenoie.
Awaji onions are said to have a sugar content of 14 degrees. This is the same sweetness as a melon, apparently. Amazing!

My stomach was full and I keeped pedalling to get to Tokushima.
But in this heat I finally got a cramp in my leg….
I managed to find a place to rest and take a short break in a shopfront.
Of course I got permission.
The shopkeeper gave me a big ice.
Thank you very much!
Thank you, shopkeeper!

I kept on pedalling for a bit after this, but eventually my cramp was too painful and I couldn’t keep on pedalling any longer, so I called a taxi to take me to the bus stop where I would go to Tokushima.
This area was about 50 km from the start.
I was so very disappointed.
I took a taxi to the designated bus stop, but after being dropped off, it turned out to be a completely different bus stop! With the help of a local ppl,
I managed to get a community bus to the original bus stop!
I don’t wanna take a taxi again.
To my surprise, I found the same local woman at the bus stop.
She was apparently sightseeing on Awaji Island with her family before work.
The world is surprisingly small, isn’t it?
And also, I could see the whirlpools from the bus. I heard it is quite rare to see it, so I was very lucky!
I was relieved that we managed to get to Tokushima safely.

I arrived Tokushima station.
build my bike and park it at the station.
So many things happened today
it was so tiring day

I found Tokushima ramen shop. It is said to have pork in pork soup. Some people put a raw egg on top, but I don’t like it, so I didn’t go through with it this time.

it was tastyyyy
My stomach was full and I was getting sleepy.
Well, see you tomorrow^^
What I missed this day
- Matsuho no sato (美湯松帆の郷)
- Uzushio (道の駅)
