【Ohenro#1】From Ichikawa to Osaka

Travel

Before I’m gonna write about my trip journal, I’m telling you the reason why I decided to do ohenro.

Anyway some people might think “what is ohenro?
Simply put, Ohenro (it is Buddhist pilgrimage in English?) is to go around 88 temples in Shikoku.
if you wanna know about this more, lets go this page!

Usually, Ohenro which goes around 88 temples in Shikoku is done on foot tho
2 months before my trip started, my dad suddenly gave his bicycle to me.

And apparently, my dad full-ordered and made the bike when he was a high school student.
He’s 60ish so that bike should be about 50 years old! (half century!)

And then I came up idea to do ohenro with his bike!
(he must be chuffed I guess 🙂

the reason I wanted to do ohenro was I heard the benefit will triple if you do ohenro in a leap year and I really like meeting people I didn’t know!
And also now there are a lot of foreign people in Japan.
I thought it’s gonna be interesting trip!

that’s why I decided to go to Shikoku for ohenro by bicycle…..

But HOW ?

I’m in Ichikawa, Chiba which is the prefecture next to Tokyo and is 530km away from Osaka.

And also I had the biggest problem.

I was literary broke…..

So, I considered how I went to Shikoku. In Japan, we have many transportations like train, shinkansen, ferry, airplane. All ways are too expensive and I couldn’t afford them…

So, this time I decided to use special ticket(Seishun 18 kippu, it means youth 18 ticket?) and take the train.

What is the Seishun 18 kippu? I’m gonna write about the ticket in detail after!

Simply put, this ticket is like 5days unlimited rides ticket. it is 12050yen (80.4USD) so each day should be 2410yen (16USD).

You can go everywhere for 2410yen (16USD). IT’S SO AFOODABLE!

I think some people thought this ticket is not allowed to use for over 18 years old people
but NO WORRIES! You can use it no matter how old you are!
You have to be young at heart though hahaha

8/4/2024

This day, my trip starts.

On the day, I wake up 5:30am naturally. Was I nervus? I don’t know. usually I wake up 9 or 10 in holiday. It’s like a typical lazy university student, innit?

anyway, I went to Ichikawa station to get on the train. To Osaka I have to change line 5 times and get on train for about half and 9 hours in total. That’s too hard physically and mentally,,, but luckily I am just 21.
So, I got over somehow….

Here’s my time table!

Ichikawa station Leave at 7:44 for Zushi

↓ through Tokyo station

Arrived at 8:48 Totsuka station Leave at 8:54

Arrived at 10:06 Atami station Leave at 10:16.

↓ during this I had lunch I bought yesterday
(bread and green tea🥖🍵 it was yam yam)
but I wondered how many time shinkansen had passed the train I got on,,,,

Arrived at 12:44 Hamamatsu station Leave at 12:46.

Arrived at 13:18 Toyohashi station Leave at 13:32.

Arrived at 15:40 Maibara station Leave at 15:47

Arrived at 15:47 Osaka station Leave at 17:12

Then finally I arrived at Osaka station!
That was a loooong journey……I was exhausted……
I almost sit down the train though

when I arrived the station, there is a trouble.
Usually when you wanna bring bicycle in the train, you have to disassemble bike and put it in the bike bag though.
(see the 3rd image from top!)
I thought I would leave my bicycle at Osaka station but they refused to keep it! 😢
Of course I looked up they could keep it before…..

So I assembled my bike and park my bicycle at the station

Whatever, Enjoy Osaka! Speaking of Osaka, Kushikatsu is famous for dinner!

I looked up good kushikatsu restaurant.
Apparently it is in Osaka station.
It is Kushikastu daruma

so I went there and there is long long queue in front of restaurant.
I wondered if I should wait long queue but I decided to wait the queue at last.

I waited for like an hour,,,, Finally,,,,,

I ordered 2 beef and 1 pork and 1 onion and 1 cheese and 1 mochi
and I drank a pint of ginger ale
I think it was like 1800yen(12USD)
Especially mochi was quite goooood!

I arrived destination and had dinner and then,,,,

Next, I had to go the place I stayed.
This day I’ve already decided where I stayed before.

The name I would stay was Kaikatsu Club at Dotonbori. It’s a net cafe. Hopefully you can get it.
anyway I’m gonna write about this after…..(sorry)

You can read tons of manga and use Internet and PC and take shower and use laundry and also sleep there!….

And it is 2080yen(14USD)!!!! that is completely for STUDENTS !!!!

And then I prepared my stuff for tomorrow and got blanket and some of manga

So, Let’s call it a day!

Things I missed out

  • Sawayaka’s hamburger steak (ハンバーグ) at Shizuoka
  • 551 horai at Osaka
  • Takoyaki at Osaka
